Linda Sherrell, Ph.D., is a retired computer science professor, accomplished bridge player, and dedicated educator based in Collierville, Tennessee. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from Louisiana State University and holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Mathematics from Auburn University. Over a career spanning more than two decades, Linda taught undergraduate and graduate courses in software engineering, programming, and discrete mathematics, and served in leadership roles such as Accreditation Committee Chair, Undergraduate Coordinator, and Director of summer computational thinking camps for girls. She was also the Principal Investigator of a $1.6 million National Science Foundation grant to enhance computer science education in Memphis City and Shelby County Schools. In recognition of her contributions to STEM education, she has received multiple honors, including induction into P.O.W.E.R. (Professional Organization of Women of Excellence Recognized) and Marquis Who’s Who.

After retiring from academia, Linda pursued her passion for bridge, achieving the rank of Ruby Life Master from the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) in May 2022. She teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced bridge both in-person and online, offering private and semi-private lessons tailored to students’ preferences. Her beginner courses include Learn Bridge in a Day and No Trump in a Day, covering conventions, play of the hand, and defense. Intermediate lessons focus on conventions and the Two Over One system, while advanced instruction emphasizes play and defense strategies. She also has extensive experience tutoring mathematics, specializing in algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus, and supporting gifted students and those with learning differences, including ADD, dyslexia, and autism. Over 25 years, Linda has received two teaching awards voted on by her students.

Linda is deeply committed to volunteerism and community engagement. She has supported the Memphis and Collierville public libraries by assisting with book sales, computer literacy programs, and maintaining music and movie databases for youth programs. She is an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, serving in leadership roles and contributing to charitable efforts such as CASA and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Beyond teaching and volunteering, Linda continues to refine her bridge skills, aiming for Gold Life Master status, while enjoying reading and participating in local bridge clubs. Her career reflects a lifelong dedication to education, mentorship, and the pursuit of excellence both in and outside the classroom.
