02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to always put integrity first and to never stop learning. It's to always pursue further information and to let my clients trust me with their financial information, because honesty is one of my goals. A commitment to continuous education is very, very important in the tax industry. With that advice, it's really helped and guided me through my career and helped me build lasting relationships with my clients. Staying motivated and keeping on learning has been essential, especially since tax laws are continuously changing and ongoing education is actually part of my profession.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them to commit yourself to continuous learning, because the tax industry is going to be continuously learning. Always maintain the highest ethical standards and focus on building trust with your clients. Take the time to understand not only how to prepare taxes, but also how taxes affect individuals and their families, and let them know that they're helping people make important financial decisions. Always believe in your abilities and invest in your education, and don't be afraid to pursue leadership opportunities, because the tax industry offers tremendous opportunity for growth. 04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in the tax business are keeping up with the changes in tax laws and the IRS requirements. Staying knowledgeable, client-focused, and continuing to provide valuable service and support can be demanding when regulations are constantly evolving. One of the biggest opportunities is being able to educate and empower individuals and small business owners to make better financial decisions. Understanding how the tax laws affect their long-term goals allows us to provide trusted advice and year-round support, which makes a very meaningful impact on our clients' lives. Another great opportunity is learning how to expand access to professional tax services through secure technology, like client portals for document uploads, virtual consultations, and remote tax preparation. This allows us to reach more people across the country and provide greater convenience, though I've found that especially older people are sometimes hesitant about uploading their information online. But this expansion is allowing us to serve more people and grow our businesses.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is the most important value to me, both in my work and personal life. I always put integrity first because it helps me build trust and respect with my clients. Honesty is one of my goals, and I want my clients to trust me with their financial information. Building lasting relationships based on trust is fundamental to everything I do. I also deeply value continuous learning and education, because staying knowledgeable allows me to provide the best service and support to my clients. Helping people and making a meaningful difference in their lives drives me every day. Whether it's helping a family maximize their refund or assisting a small business owner with tax planning, knowing that I can help someone feel confident and achieve financial stability and peace of mind is what motivates me every tax season.
