Linda Woods is a bilingual educator and professional artist whose career has been defined by creativity, community impact, and a lifelong dedication to education and the arts. She spent 43 years as a credentialed bilingual teacher in Spanish and English in California, retiring in 2015 after an extensive career with the Salinas City School District. As a resource teacher, she worked closely with educators and small groups of students, focusing primarily on language development and helping Spanish-speaking children successfully transition to English. She also served as the facilitator for the Success for All reading reform program, coordinating the initiative for a school of approximately 700 students and 35 teachers and helping many children achieve reading levels above grade expectations.

Throughout her teaching career, Linda integrated the arts into education, encouraging students to explore creativity as a powerful tool for learning. She taught painting through right-brain learning techniques and helped nurture young artists within her community. One of her classes contributed 36 published entries to the book Art Treasures: A Tribute to Young Artists, showcasing the talent of her students. Her passion for public art also led her to design and paint murals in 14 schools across the Salinas City School District, many of which remain today. In recognition of her work advancing literacy and education, she received the prestigious Lighthouse for Literacy Award in 2010.

Following her retirement from education, Linda turned her lifelong passion for art into a professional endeavor through her business, Linda Woods Collection. Now based in Navarre, Florida, where she moved in 2019 with her husband to be closer to family, she continues to create and share artwork inspired by both personal experience and the natural beauty of the Emerald Coast. Through her art, Linda aims to evoke emotion, beauty, and connection, offering works that range from still life and realism to fantasy and abstract themes.

I value collaboration and believe that being a strong team player allows meaningful ideas and initiatives to grow and succeed. Most importantly, I have always been driven by the desire to make a positive difference through the work I do and the people I serve.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is that it is okay not to know everything. What matters most is maintaining a willingness to learn from others and remaining open to new knowledge and perspectives. I have also learned the importance of being patient with myself, recognizing that growth and expertise develop over time through continuous learning and experience.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to create your own unique path and pursue opportunities that align with your passions and strengths. It is important to recognize your value, advocate for yourself, and approach your career with confidence. Above all, take pride in your accomplishments and the contributions you make along the way.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest opportunities in my field today is the ability to reach and connect with a wider audience. Through various platforms and community engagement, I am able to share my artwork with many more people and invite them to explore and appreciate its beauty. This expanded access allows artists to build meaningful connections and inspire others through creative expression.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my professional and personal life are kindness, respect, and a strong commitment to community. I believe in treating others with compassion and integrity while remaining actively involved in efforts that support and strengthen the community around me.

I also value leading by example and strive to serve as a positive mentor to others. Supporting, encouraging, and guiding those who are learning or developing their own paths is something I find deeply meaningful.
