About Lindsay
Lindsay Meisels is a music lawyer based in Los Angeles, California. With nearly three years of experience, she serves as an in-house attorney on the legal team at BMG, a record label and music publisher. Her practice focuses on transactional work in entertainment law, including negotiating agreements between publishers, labels, and artists, as well as addressing music copyright and IP issues. She also contributes to discussions on AI and its implications for the industry. Meisels holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a law degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. While in law school, she wrote a law review article examining the Music Modernization Act of 2018 and its effects on public performance licensing and royalties. She completed an externship at BMG and has remained with the company as an attorney. Meisels is a member of the American Independent Music Publishers (AIMP), the Copyright Society, and Songwriters of North America (SONA). Outside her primary role, she engages in pro bono work assisting songwriters and recording artists with administrative tasks such as PRO signups and catalog organization. She attributes her success to a scrappy approach combining hard work, persistence, strong relationships, and a deep understanding of both the creative and business sides of the music industry, supported by great mentors and genuine interactions grounded in integrity. Meisels values integrity, curiosity, and respect in her professional and personal life, and she advises young women entering the field to know their value, advocate for themselves, build genuine relationships, and stay true to their values while recognizing that knowledge is power.

Ten minutes with Lindsay
01What do you attribute your success to?
Being scrappy - a combination of hard work, persistence, strong relationships, and always making the effort to understand the music industry. Having a deep understanding of both the creative and business sides, great mentors, and approaching relationships genuinely and with integrity.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Always know your value but also never stop learning. Reputation is one of your most valuable assets. People remember how you conduct yourself, how you treat people, and whether they can trust you. Relationships and integrity carry you a very long way.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Know your value and do not be afraid to have a voice. Never be afraid to speak up and ask questions and advocate for yourself. Build genuine relationships, find people you respect, be a good colleague, and stay true to your values. Knowledge is power.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI is both the biggest challenge and opportunity. Technology is developing much faster than the law, with many unanswered questions about copyright, ownership, licensing, and how creators should be compensated. Opportunity to develop thoughtful licensing frameworks that allow innovation while respecting creators.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, curiosity, meeting people with respect. Being ambitious and successful while still being a good person, treating people well, and being proud not only of accomplishments but how you got there and how you treated people along the way.
