Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lindsay

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to dedication, hard work and never passing up a good opportunity to challenge myself and my skills. I enjoy working with people, serving their needs and building relationships based on trust and a love for life and laughter. I am a life-long learner, and I enjoy investing back in myself through continued education and professional designation studies.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Go slow to go fast. Take your time and be thoughtful with your decisions, where you spend your time, and what you promise versus what you can deliver.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Stay curious longer! Stay engaged and know that any bumps in the road are a reminder that we are strong and we can endure whatever comes our way good or bad.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field right now are finding the right platform to get information and education out to more people that need it. While I love Linked In, email, virtual meetings and such it can be challenging to get the information to the people effectively. "What we keep we lose; only what we give remains our own." Quote from St. Catherine's School motto. Another great quote is this: "In America, there are two tax systems: one for the informed and one for the uninformed. Both are legal." -Judge Learned Hand

The biggest opportunities are to share knowledge with clients, prospects and interested parties. I look for ways to explain how clients can be more tax-efficient, how giving to public charities can improve their tax situation and allow them to offset income produced from IRA Roth conversions. I have strong conviction around long-term care planning, and I look forward to the opportunities to explain how it works, why it works well, what it is, when to purchase it and who it makes sense for and who it may not. One of the biggest opportunities is working with business owners. They have built a business and invested all their time and money into that business. I like to help business owners diversify their investment, plan for their personal financial plan while helping them create value in their business. Often times owner will fail to plan personally and then feel apprehensive about transitioning out and selling their business because owning the business is all they know. It can feel scary to move beyond the role as owner. What is their new purpose after the sale?

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are honesty and being trustworthy, living with integrity, acting intentionally and responsibly, feeling confident in my choices, expressing compassion and empathy, living by a strong moral compass, and showing respect always for myself, family, coworkers, clients, neighbors and all humans. I value good habits and being a steward in my profession by pursuing academic excellence in the financial services industry, staying curious longer, using creative thinking to problem solve, having a good attitude through energetic inquiry to continue to strive to reach new levels.
