Her Story
About Lindsey
I've been in the lab space for 7 years total, with 5 years in my current role as an account manager for Core Diagnostics Laboratories. Before this, I worked with another lab for 2 years doing genome testing, which provides information on how our body processes or metabolizes medicine based on our genome. Everything that I've done in my life has been intentional. I feel like the gifts that God gave me to just love people well and try to make an impact on someone's health and longevity is a big part of my purpose. I originally became a speech pathologist and had my master's degree in speech pathology and communication disorders. I worked in the rehab setting with patients who maybe had experienced a traumatic brain injury, or a stroke, or some other neurological deficit. Even though I no longer practice as a speech pathologist, the drive that it created and the love for helping people is really what shaped me. In my current role, I spend a lot of time in the field, belly to belly, meeting new providers, physicians, and nursing staff, and educating them on different testing options. I travel between the Gulf Coast and mid-central Alabama into the Wiregrass part of my state. I'm expected to acquire new business and maintain new business, calling on somewhere around 7 to 10 doctors in a typical day. When I started, I was happy to have 100 samples a month, and I now have 700 samples a week. I also ran a skincare business for 15 years that I built from the ground floor into a pretty amazing business before the company sold.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to go for no. All of us, every day, are sitting with no. Be willing to be uncomfortable in finding that there's a sweet spot just right on the other side of fear. That's really beautiful, because it's where you can find, that's where you can, I don't know, it's like when you just push past that fear, whatever it is that's holding you back, there's beauty on the other side of that. Even if it is a rejection or a no, I know with every rejection I've ever gotten, it's led me to a yes. I actually do a challenge with people where I would say, I want you to go for 100 no's, because when you get to 100 no's, you're gonna have so many yeses along the way. We all need to just be willing to go for no, even though it's not always easy, you've gotta have tough skin. It's interesting, too, I feel like a lot of times in this space, it can be more dominated by men. And I think women have such depth to their emotion, and they're willing to be vulnerable. And I think that's what makes me good at my job, that I'm not afraid to be vulnerable. And I'm not afraid to show emotion, and I think that that, at the end of the day, lets people see inside my heart, and this isn't just, you know, it's not just a job, it's something that I really care deeply about. I care deeply about people. It's not a surface level, there's depth there. I think women, in a lot of ways, can be more compassionate.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity. Honesty. Living out your passion. Living out your purpose. I think you can do both. I try to treat people like I would want to be treated. Every patient's swab that I receive, I think of it as my mom's or my dad's, and that it's a life and death situation, even though it may not truly be, it could be. I think at the end of the day, everyone wants to feel valued and cared for and loved well, and that may sound really silly, but even in my offices, if it's a medical assistant that may not always feel like she, those medical assistants, those are the people that are taking your blood pressure and swabbing your nose and doing all that. They are seeing sometimes 50 to 100 people a day and can just be so overwhelmed. And I try to be intentional about my encounters. I've been given an opportunity every day in this field to love on people well, to the one who feels like they're the least of these. I love for them to know that they're not. I'm very strong in my faith as well, and try to put even that into practice with my faith and sharing, just loving on people well.
