She began her nursing career around 1986 or 1987 after graduating with her LPN from Trinity and progressed through LVN, AD, and RN credentials. Her broad experience includes roles as a float nurse in critical care, gerontology, ICU, and ER settings before focusing on transplant coordination, where she helps patients maintain health while awaiting transplants and celebrates their recoveries. Lindy has earned the Excellence Award, the Daisy Award on two occasions, and accommodations from VACO along with a financial award for creating a template that streamlined transplant order processes. She remains a member of the nursing association and credits her mentor Tammy Ness for instilling the importance of never lowering standards of care.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lindy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I had a wonderful mentor. Her name was Tammy Ness. She pushed me, she pushed me, she pushed me. And she says, don't ever lower your standards of care for anybody, and I don't.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

There are always weeds in the garden. Pluck them out as soon as they sprout up, because they spread. What she meant was nursing negativity spreads like fire.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't go in it for the money. A lot of people go into nursing for the money. Do it because you care. You have to care to be a good nurse. If you don't care, if you're just in it for money, don't do it. You have a heart, you have the empathy, you have to feel what they feel.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I never give up. There's times I wanted to, but I never give up. At those times when I feel weak, or when I feel defeated. I go into a room that's quiet. I sit by myself, and I think. And I tell myself that you're not going to be feared by this. And I've self up, I put my big woman panties on. And I get back out there.
