Her Story
About Lindy
I work for Quanta Power Solutions, which is an engineering, procurement, and construction firm based in Birmingham. We build substations and data centers, and right now our focus is on data centers. As a structural designer, I design the steel and concrete for the sites, and I work heavily in 3D modeling. I generally create drawings that will then go through approval and then get sent out to the field for construction. I've been with Quanta since September 2023, and before that I worked for Yates engineering for a few months. Prior to entering the engineering field, I ran a residential construction company that I started in 2017 with a previous business partner. I ran the office and he ran the field, and I did a lot of assistant project management type things including payroll, project admin, procurement, taxes, auditing, permitting, and anything that needed to be done in the office. I just graduated with my associate's degree in architectural and civil design last fall, and I'm currently in school working toward my bachelor's degree in civil engineering, which I plan to complete in fall 2028, followed by taking my FE exam.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I'm 33, and when I was graduating high school, everyone around me felt like they knew exactly what they wanted to do for the rest of their lives, and I wasn't sure, and I kind of felt very out of place. I kind of fell into construction, it was almost accidental, and I found something that I was really good at and really passionate about. Now I'm on track, in school to get my bachelor's degree in civil engineering, and finally putting myself on a track to do something that I absolutely love. For a lot of people and women, the focus is, you know, let's make as much money as we possibly can, but I just don't think the money means a whole lot if you're not truly in love with what you're doing. I think that giving yourself the time to kind of find your niche and find what you truly enjoy doing is a process. I think it's really important for women to be in the industry and making our presence known and adding our footprints to that, because it's been such a male-led industry for so long, and I always say that women make the best project managers.
