Her Story

About Lindy

I grew up in East Tennessee in a very small town, and I'm the one person in my direct family that has a college education. My husband and I both came from really small towns where people don't leave and don't know there's life outside of these towns, but we just knew there was more. We both put ourselves through college and moved away to Boston, which really changed the trajectory of our lives. Everything we have is because we worked hard - I never had a mentor, no one was ever coaching me, I just knew that if I wanted more, I had to work hard. By doing what we did, we've opened up so many opportunities for our kids and changed the future for our children. In addition to our day jobs in finance, we are both pastors - my husband's a worship pastor and I'm a children's pastor. We've been in ministry for equally as long as we've been professionals, starting in Nashville and now pastoring in Boston.

Ten minutes with Lindy

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep showing up. Show up when it's hard, show up when it feels complicated. Don't be afraid to ask questions. You are gonna make mistakes, 100% - I've made them. If you know you made a mistake, go ahead and go to your manager or whoever and be like, you know what, I messed this up, but I've already got a resolution, this is how we're gonna fix it. We're all going to mess up, especially in finance, all the time. The great thing about it is you can fix it. Work hard, show up, don't be scared to mess up because you will. Own your mistakes and learn from them, and just turn it around. Always have a game plan to fix whatever happened. I think integrity is huge - integrity sometimes overpowers a hard worker. If one of them has integrity and one doesn't, I'm gonna choose the person that has integrity 10 times over.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Job growth can be not always so great, so we're always looking for the next opportunity. Sometimes that can be challenging to find. And then sometimes I question, like, do I want to keep doing this specific piece of finance? How do you pivot? How do you do something else? I've often thought about how do I pivot from this to something else and grow.
