Lisa Sykes, M.A., is a seasoned logistics and manufacturing professional based in Indianapolis, Indiana. She currently serves as Senior Logistics Specialist (Outbound) at Laticrete International, where she oversees less-than-truckload (LTL) operations, freight movement, claims, and OS&D. As the sole trainer and master user of the company’s Manhattan Transportation Management System (TMS), Lisa is the go-to resource for troubleshooting, system optimization, and continuous employee training, ensuring smooth and efficient outbound logistics processes. With over 25 years of experience in the logistics industry, Lisa has held roles ranging from city dispatcher at UPS Freight to operational leadership in LTL and outbound logistics. Her expertise spans operational management, system integration, and team training, allowing her to translate complex logistical requirements into actionable and efficient workflows. Lisa is recognized for her perseverance, dedication, and ability to excel in a male-dominated field, using her experience to mentor colleagues and foster operational excellence. Lisa’s educational background includes a Master of Arts in Sociology from Indiana University–Indianapolis, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, and a Paralegal Certificate. She is currently pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Global Challenges from the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having a strong support system—my husband, my mother, and my family. My mom instilled in me a solid work ethic and the determination to never give up.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
If you want to do it, be prepared for challenges. It will not be easy, but with hard work, perseverance, and focus, you can succeed. Don’t let anyone discourage you—stay the course and believe in yourself.
