About Lisa

Lisa Cesaro is an accomplished educator, mental performance, nutrition, and strength coach, and founder of Fitness4Function Training, where she empowers young athletes to excel both on and off the field. With more than three decades of experience as a middle school English teacher in Hamilton Township Public Schools, she has dedicated her career to developing confident readers, writers, and critical thinkers while mentoring students to become lifelong learners. Alongside her work in education, she has built a respected coaching practice focused on helping middle school, high school, and collegiate athletes strengthen their mindset, resilience, confidence, and overall performance through a holistic approach that integrates mental skills, physical conditioning, and nutrition. A standout athlete herself, Cesaro's coaching philosophy is rooted in firsthand experience competing at the highest levels. As captain of The College of New Jersey's back-to-back NCAA National Championship women's soccer teams and the first female basketball player in Steinert High School history to surpass 1,000 career points, she developed the leadership, discipline, and perseverance that now define her coaching style. A multiple Hall of Fame inductee, she has transformed those experiences into practical strategies that have helped hundreds of athletes—including All-Americans and collegiate scholarship recipients—overcome mental barriers, build confidence, and achieve peak performance. Through individualized coaching, workshops, and keynote presentations, she equips athletes with actionable tools to manage pressure, improve focus, reset after mistakes and perform with purpose. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Cesaro is deeply committed to serving her community and inspiring the next generation. She supports animal welfare organizations, women's centers and shelters, college scholarship initiatives, and programs that provide opportunities for underserved young athletes. She credits her success to the values instilled by her parents—a mother who continues to serve as a nurse and a father who was a City of Trenton fire captain—as well as the mentors and coaches who shaped her journey. Guided by a belief in the transformative power of education, mentorship, and preparation, Lisa Cesaro continues to empower students and athletes to believe in themselves, embrace challenges, and achieve goals they once thought were beyond reach.

At the core of her work is a simple philosophy: You can be, do, and have anything you want with time, the right training, and belief in yourself. Her motto, "Go Be Great," reflects her belief that greatness exists within every person. As she often says, "Everyone has it in them to be great—that's why we're here."

Ten minutes with Lisa

01What do you attribute your success to?

Most likely, my upbringing and my parents had the greatest influence on who I am today. My mom, a critical care nurse, and my dad, a fire captain, raised four daughters and led by example every single day. They instilled in us the values of hard work, perseverance, service to others, and the belief that there were no limits on what we could achieve.

My coaches, from youth sports through college, also played a significant role in shaping my character. They challenged me to push beyond my comfort zone, embrace adversity, and strive for excellence both on and off the field. Through sports, I learned some of life's most important lessons: discipline, teamwork, leadership, confidence, and the ability to keep moving forward after setbacks.

The combination of my parents' unwavering support and the lessons I learned through athletics helped shape the person, coach, educator, and leader I am today. Their influence is the foundation of my belief that with time, the right training, and belief in yourself, you can be, do, and have anything you desire.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Clarity is the foundation. Get really clear about what you want and why you want it. Have a mission, a vision, and a purpose that guide your decisions, then create an action plan to move you forward. Success doesn't happen by hoping. It comes from intentional and deliberate action taken consistently over time.

You also need to seek support and mentorship. Find people who have done what you want to do, reach out, read books, listen to podcasts, attend workshops, or invest in one-on-one coaching. Surround yourself with people who challenge you, encourage you, and help you grow. The right environment can accelerate your progress and expand what you believe is possible.

Most importantly, be willing to learn, adapt, and stay committed when obstacles arise. Remember, genius leaves a trail. Success leaves clues. Study those who have gone before you, learn from their experiences, and then go create your own path.
