Her Story

About Lisa

I've been working in the finance securities industry since 2000, and I currently serve as Chief Strategy and Operations Officer and co-owner of Advisors Advantage Network, a firm that works with financial advisors for compliance training and supervision purposes. My role has really evolved over the last 20 years, morphing from one position to another. I've been in charge of supervision for this group since 2008 as the OSJ branch manager, and it's just evolved over time as we've grown. In my current position, I handle advisor relationships, escalated problem resolution that advisors have on client situations, and I really try to provide different options for growth, efficiency, and different solutions that might work in their practice to just make them more efficient. We also provide training and education. My most notable professional achievement is growing the branch to where it is now, hiring the amazing team that we have, and building that up from it being just me 20 years ago.

Ten minutes with Lisa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I really have to say it's my amazing team. I know a lot of people say that, but my team is just truly phenomenal, and we've kind of created the best of the best in our industry. I think that everybody being competent, doing their jobs, taking responsibility - we've been able to grow the business together and help our advisors. Having a team where everyone is skilled and accountable has been the key to our success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I was at a conference where Madeleine Albright spoke, and her quote was, there's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women. That's something I've always really kept in mind - this unspoken sisterhood. I've tried to always be cognizant of that and focus on helping women where we have the opportunity and supporting each other in this unspoken sisterhood, rather than tearing each other down.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Seek out female relationships. There are so many women who want to see women succeed in our business that we really will do so much to help them get where they want to be. The support network among women in this industry is strong, and women genuinely want to help other women advance in their careers.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

We are in a constantly changing regulatory environment, and it's a challenge for everybody in our industry. I think our opportunity is we're able to try to weed through that for our advisors and provide them solutions where they don't have to get caught up in the noise. The regulatory complexity is the main challenge, but it also creates an opportunity for us to add value by helping advisors navigate it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I follow Stoic philosophy - it's always a work in progress, but I really appreciate the tenets and moral principles from Ryan Holiday and Stoic philosophy. I look at obstacles as opportunities. I try to be strict with myself and tolerant of others. I focus on what I can control and try to let the rest go. These principles guide both my professional and personal approach to life.
