Her Story
About Lisa
My career has been administrative in nature for over 30 years, working in various roles including management positions. I started in community college but began having children and found work in admin jobs, which were plentiful back in the day. I've worked across different industries and roles throughout my career. When COVID came along, I needed to step things up, so I became a business owner and independent contractor with my own clients, though I've since moved on from that business. I'm a lifelong learner and passionate about growth, which is why I already have two college degrees and am currently pursuing my third degree, a master's in nonprofit management with a specialty in entrepreneurship, which will be completed at the end of next year. My goal is to transition into a more purposeful, meaningful, mission-related career, ideally as a development director working in fundraising, annual giving, and daily giving for nonprofits. I believe funding is the biggest priority and struggle for any nonprofit, so stepping into that gap would open new doors for me to work in a field that aligns with my faith and values. I'm a mother of three, an author, and a biblical advocate who is purpose-driven and excited about making a difference in people's lives.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I honestly believe that God gifts us with certain spirit gifts - creative abilities, speaking abilities, leadership abilities. We all have something special, each one of us is unique. It takes character, spiritual gifts, passion, and determination just to go forward. I think it all starts with you as a person, and then you get to build on that through life. When we get refined through our struggles, we mature into, hopefully, the person God wanted us to be. But one thing I want to add is that a lot of people can go to church on a Sunday and say they're a Christian, but they don't really have a relationship with God. It's that relationship, that intimacy with Him, where He really works inside of your spirit and in your life. If you maintain that and keep that at the forefront of your life, that relationship, then in my mind, you can't go wrong. Yes, you can go through struggles, but you're walking your best life if you have a close relationship with Jesus.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say that it's important to take the time to be organized, to learn your trade at the very beginning. Have a good trainer, let somebody walk alongside you so you can shadow them for a while and understand the nuances associated with the business. A lot of times they can give you videos for training or some basics, but if they leave you there, then you don't understand the nuances of the business, so how can you address it? It's important to have a well-rounded understanding of the business, its nuances, and then, of course, the operational procedures. Hopefully they're streamlined, because some companies don't have streamlined processes, and it makes it really hard for employees to be efficient and work well.
