About Lisa

Lisa Hollender co-founded Taps and Tails dog park bar in Cleveland, Ohio, with her husband a little over five years ago. Her background in animals, animal behavior, and animal science, paired with her husband's business finance expertise, enabled them to create a unique establishment offering doggy daycare, dog boarding, and a dog park with a bar. She brings creativity to the business by organizing events such as dog prom, dog Easter egg hunts, and photos with Santa, while also managing day-to-day operations including marketing, hiring, training, and ensuring safety and fun for the dogs. Hollender attributes her success to endurance and perseverance, as well as the priceless community built around the business, where people have met, gotten engaged, formed best friendships, and adopted dogs. She emphasizes the importance of passion, grit, mental toughness, work-life balance, family first, accountability, integrity, and always doing the right thing.

Ten minutes with Lisa

01What do you attribute your success to?

It is a lot of the endurance and perseverance, but it's also seeing the community we've built. It's something that's just priceless seeing how it's changed others' lives. We've had people meet at Taps and Tails, they've gotten engaged, best friends meet, people adopt dogs and bring them here.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It is not easy, it's very difficult, but as long as you're passionate about it and you have the grit and endurance to succeed, and understanding that there's always going to be ups and downs, that's how you're going to be successful, as long as you have passion for what you're doing.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Just having that mental capacity, knowing that there's always going to be challenges, and it's not always going to be smooth sailing. Having that mental toughness is super important, and having the passion for what you do is a must-have. There's a lot of room for growth and expanding into multiple locations.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Finding that work-life balance is super important. Family first is a big moral of mine. We built our business over really important core values like being accountable, having integrity, always doing the right thing even when it's not the easiest.
