About Lisa
Lisa Jackson is a Privacy and Compliance Analyst with Travis County's Enterprise Risk Management Office, where she specializes in privacy, compliance, and security risk assessments that help safeguard county-wide technology initiatives. Her career began in healthcare, working in long-term care at GE, before transitioning into technology in her early twenties. Determined to build a better future, Lisa put herself through school by working during the day and attending classes at night. Her long-term goal was to work at Microsoft, a dream she achieved and fulfilled over 11 years, advancing from a coordinator role to Release Program Manager while leading complex technology initiatives and enterprise-wide projects.
Seeking a stronger work-life balance and the opportunity to be closer to family, Lisa joined Travis County a decade ago, attracted by its stability, benefits, and commitment to public service. Today, she works remotely as part of the county's technology assessment team, conducting privacy, compliance, and security risk assessments for technology solutions across all Travis County departments. She is passionate about protecting sensitive information, supporting sound governance, and helping departments navigate evolving privacy and regulatory requirements. Lisa recently earned her CompTIA Security+ certification, further strengthening her expertise in cybersecurity and compliance.
Throughout her career, Lisa has been guided by a strong work ethic, a customer-service mindset, and the belief that treating others with respect is the foundation of lasting success. She credits the mentors who invested in her growth and now encourages others to identify their strengths, set meaningful goals, and pursue careers that offer both purpose and balance. Outside of work, Lisa enjoys practicing yoga, hiking, and rollerblading—activities that reflect her commitment to wellness, resilience, and maintaining a healthy balance between her professional and personal life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Lisa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the mentors I've had throughout my career. Their guidance, support, and willingness to share their knowledge have helped me expand my network, navigate challenges, and grow both personally and professionally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is to identify my strengths, understand what I'm naturally good at, and pursue work that aligns with those strengths. Staying focused on my goals and consistently putting in the effort has been essential to my success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to look beyond the role itself and consider the full career package, including long-term stability, benefits, and work-life balance. While the technology industry can be dynamic and unpredictable, opportunities in the public sector can offer meaningful work, strong benefits, and financial security, including a pension that can make a significant difference later in life.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in government is navigating organizational hierarchies, which can sometimes slow communication and decision-making. At the same time, one of its greatest strengths is the emphasis on work-life balance, with structured hours that allow me to be productive while maintaining a healthy balance between my professional and personal life.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I believe in giving my best effort every day, serving others with dedication, and consistently showing up with professionalism and commitment. Providing exceptional service and maintaining a strong work ethic are values that guide me in both my career and my personal life.
