Her Story

About Lisa

My career journey began with a communications and marketing degree, and I initially worked in public relations, which was vastly different from what I do now. I moved into digital marketing, then content strategy, and eventually transitioned fully into writing and editing for publication and delivery. This pivot into creative work was transformative for me - it reignited something reminiscent of my childhood when I was always really good at writing and storytelling, played with cameras a lot, and wrote in my journals every day. I had lost a lot of that growing up as I was shuffled into school and the corporate world, but when I rediscovered writing and moved out of pure strategy work into the creative field, it clicked for me and I became obsessed with storytelling in general. Now, as a copywriter, editor, and editorial creative strategist, my typical day involves project management, deep research into the brands I work with and their audiences and competitors, brainstorming story ideas that dial in their branding, and pitching these ideas to creative directors and founders. I produce work across various channels - brand stories on websites, email marketing, and large articles - and collaborate closely with directors and partners to fine-tune the stories. I also offer editorial consulting where I work with founders on building brand narratives and long-form content strategies, helping them understand what stories to share when they have the bandwidth and budget to commit to storytelling. Working with global brands has been a significant milestone - one of my proudest achievements was creating a video ad for a beauty brand's SPF launch that went out in the Philippines, which was my first global video project. I've also started my own publishing media website that I'm currently building alongside my consultancy work. Making that pivot into creative work made me ultimately so much more satisfied with my work, and it allowed me to pave a way to reignite the inner artist in me.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career and life advice I ever received came from an old client and mentor who became a podcast host. She told me, 'Make it simple, but simple doesn't always mean easy.' I remember that everywhere I go now, even when I feel like it's really busy. As soon as we make it simple, it becomes easier to digest. The step itself doesn't always mean it's easy, but when we make things simple, the step forward becomes so much more clear. That really helped guide me a lot when I had a lot of those busier days.
