About Lisa
Lisa Mattern owns and operates a Cruise Planners franchise as a Land and Cruise Travel Professional based in Michigan. With 15 years in the industry, she purchased her home-based franchise 15 years ago and has grown it from an initial goal of $100,000 in sales to well over $600,000 to $800,000 annually, all while working alongside other full-time positions until recently transitioning to full-time in the business. Her expertise includes selling cruises as well as building custom land packages to Europe and personalized excursions and pre- and post-experiences for clients. Mattern earned her MBA and completed the requirements to become a verified travel agent. She maintains memberships in CLIA and ASTA. Prior to focusing fully on travel, she held roles in retail, home improvement management, operations management, sales management, and served as an office manager for 12 years. Mattern values transparency, honesty, and integrity in her work and personal life.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't take it personally. It is a business. If you do the right thing, then you should be okay.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn the business first before jumping in on your own. Go in as an associate or with a mentor. It's not a side gig - go all in and be serious about it.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Media coverage and world events heavily impact travel since it's a luxury purchase. People worry about prices, safety, and global issues affecting their trips.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Transparency and honesty. I want to be able to go to bed at night knowing I told people everything. Be real, have integrity.
