Her Story

About Lisa

Before working in catering, I worked for 18 law firms and accountants. I've done everything from banquet catering to school catering to catering in private homes. It just led me to a passion - I love the vibe of people, I understand people, and I know what they want. When people are having parties, I know how to do whatever they need. I work at Manhattan School of Music now, and just this Friday I'm doing the penthouse on the 18th floor for a barbecue because the client requested me specifically. I love it because even when I work in the dining hall, it's interacting with the kids. I know about their boyfriends, I know where they're coming from - I'm like a school mom to them. My passion is that I love children. I have 4 of my own children that I raised myself with no help, and anything I can do for people is just my passion. I bring professionalism to my job to make people happy. I have people all the time, like when I do Hampton jobs, they request me for their birthdays and holidays. I wish I could spend more time with my family, but sometimes these people count on me for those holidays and I have to do what I have to do. The bonds you develop with people are really awesome. I know what people want, what they don't like, and how to deal with them, and when to be quiet. It's all about making the best of it and making sure that when you do a job for someone, they don't have cleaning up to do. When you're in and out of the house or school or wherever you are, everything is put back into place, and these people will love you because everything's perfect. It's all about the vibe and the energy that you bring to people.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Just don't tell anybody what you're planning. Because when you expel something to someone, it always ruins it. This is what the rich people that I know that are rich, they never tell their next move. It's basically just do what you have to do, and move on to the next. Too much on social media, anything out there, keep it to yourself, and just keep on going.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

You have to be happy in what you do. Life is short, and being happy is the most important thing in the world. Everything's important - you have to balance everything in life. It's about making people feel good and bringing positive energy. When students say 'Miss Lisa, Miss Lisa' and they know my name, they make me feel so good every day. It's amazing how someone can make your life and your face shine because of what they say to you.
