Her Interview
Ten minutes with Lisa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to maintaining a commitment to continuous learning, seeking guidance from exceptional mentors and advocates, and remaining persistent throughout my career. I have learned the importance of leading collaboratively, bringing teams together around common goals, and embracing opportunities to grow. As an African-American woman in the pharmaceutical industry, resilience and determination have been essential in overcoming challenges and achieving meaningful results.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is to practice discernment. I've learned that not every piece of feedback should be accepted at face value. It is important to thoughtfully evaluate advice, determine what is constructive and applicable to my growth, and recognize when feedback reflects another person's perspective rather than my own abilities or potential.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to build meaningful relationships with other women in the industry and actively seek mentors and advocates who will support their professional growth. Don't hesitate to explore specialized areas such as market access and reimbursement, where there are tremendous opportunities to make an impact. Surround yourself with people who believe in your potential, continue learning, and pursue your goals with confidence and determination.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges in my field is navigating the increasing complexity of payer systems while addressing the continued underrepresentation of women in market access leadership. At the same time, there are significant opportunities to leverage artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, enhance decision-making, and simplify patient access to innovative therapies. Ultimately, the opportunity to improve healthcare access for patients remains one of the most rewarding aspects of this profession.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value lifelong learning, integrity, mentorship, and advocacy for others. I believe in continuously developing my knowledge and skills, supporting the growth of those around me, exercising discernment when making decisions, and remaining committed to improving patient access to healthcare. These values guide both my professional responsibilities and my personal interactions.
