Her Story

About Lisa

Lisa Wong is the founder and executive director of the Center for Healing By Design, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people through self-care education, holistic wellness, and preventive health practices. A licensed acupuncturist and wellness educator, Lisa has devoted her career to helping individuals discover their body's innate capacity to heal. Her mission is especially focused on supporting changemakers—including entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, athletes, and advocates—so they can optimize their health while making a positive impact in the world. Through her work, she combines science, compassion, and practical self-care tools to help people live healthier, more purposeful lives.

Lisa's professional journey bridges two very different worlds. She earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Davis, and spent nearly a decade designing cell phones before a personal health challenge inspired a profound career change. Feeling called to help others heal, she returned to school to earn a master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches University. That decision transformed her life and launched a career centered on holistic medicine, education, and service. She has since founded the Center for Healing By Design, partnered with healthcare organizations, taught self-care techniques around the world, and inspired audiences through her Climb Every Mountain Self-Care Movement, which she launched after becoming the first vegan licensed acupuncturist to summit Mount Kilimanjaro.

At the heart of Lisa's work is a belief that lasting health begins with empowering individuals to take an active role in their own well-being. She is passionate about advancing compassionate, sustainable lifestyles that benefit both people and the planet, particularly within vegan and plant-based communities. Whether speaking to healthcare professionals, mentoring entrepreneurs, or teaching children and seniors, Lisa emphasizes resilience, personal growth, and the healing potential that exists within every person. Her unique combination of engineering precision, medical expertise, and humanitarian purpose continues to shape a career dedicated to improving lives through education, innovation, and holistic care.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lisa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the incredible people who have come into my life at different stages. My mentors, friends, parents, and the supportive individuals I consider my “angels” have inspired, empowered, and guided me throughout my journey. Their encouragement has helped me discover my purpose and become the person I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is that nothing is impossible. I like to think of the word impossible as “I’m possible,” because it reminds me that anything I truly desire is within reach with faith, determination, and perseverance. I also believe in following my heart. When I am guided by love, joy, and purpose, I feel aligned with God's plan for my life. I believe each of us is born with unique gifts and talents, and true fulfillment comes from using those gifts to serve others.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is simple: nothing is impossible. Believe in yourself, trust your abilities, and don't be afraid to pursue your dreams. Stay true to your purpose, embrace opportunities for growth, and remember that your unique talents can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As a social entrepreneur and nonprofit leader, one of my biggest challenges is securing consistent funding to sustain and expand our mission. Another challenge has been overcoming my natural introversion and becoming comfortable speaking in front of large audiences. Over time, I have embraced public speaking because I feel deeply connected to my purpose, and I genuinely enjoy sharing our mission and inspiring others whenever I have the opportunity.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my personal and professional life are love, kindness, compassion, joy, peace, harmony with nature, and respect for all living beings. I strive to live these values every day and to reflect them in the way I lead, serve others, and build meaningful relationships.
