Her Story
About Liz
I've been in sales recruiting for about 8 to 9 years now. I'm currently a sales recruiter for RealPage, a property tech SaaS company focused on multifamily, where I've been for the last 3 months as the sole recruiter for the organization. This role has been really exciting because I'm able to juggle all those different rec profiles and really collaborate across the entire organization, which is something I'm really proud of. Before RealPage, I worked for 7 years as a sales recruiter for Gartner, which is more IT research and advisory, where I was the number one sales recruiter in the first half of 2023. My responsibilities include everything from candidate conversations to hiring manager intakes and kicking off searches. I focus on anything from front-end early career SDR and BDR type of roles all the way up to global strategic account executive enterprise level, and sometimes sales leadership roles. Every day looks a little bit different but also somehow the same, with a lot of creative Boolean searches and LinkedIn outreach. I started my career right out of the gate doing full cycle in agency, and that gritty work being the middle person between candidates and companies really helped me constantly approach recruiting like an entrepreneur, running my desk like it's my own business. What I really love about recruiting is helping individuals find their next opportunity and bringing next steps to them that they wouldn't have necessarily thought of. My favorite kind of situation is when it's a more passive individual who's really happy and comfortable, and I can get them to take on that next step outside their comfort zone.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I started my career right out the gate doing full cycle in agency, and I think that gritty work, being the middle person between candidates and companies, really helped me constantly approach recruiting like an entrepreneur, running my desk like it's my own business. Never taking that sales or hunting hat off has helped me as I've climbed the ranks in my roles. I'd say a lot of integrity and a lot of perseverance are key. Proactive communication is really important in recruiting as well, just being able to think ahead and build those relationships that last for years, where you can revisit those prior conversations. So communication's probably a big one, but those are the top traits I attribute my success to.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't be afraid to take chances and commit to following your heart. Commit to the decisions that you make. A really great piece of advice I was given is that once you've committed, go all in, and it's the right decision because you decided it was at that time. So don't be afraid of things going wrong, just really embrace what could go right.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Especially in sales, it is a male-heavy profession, so my best advice would be to just believe in yourself and the value that you bring. Take every opportunity to invest in yourself, and just know that you deserve a seat at the table, the table that you sit yourself at.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Sales is ever-evolving. I know most people would probably say AI is disrupting, but I'd say that's a huge opportunity for individuals to optimize their time and leverage all the resources that they can a lot more quickly, so AI is massive. With real estate and the prop tech world, there's a lot of opportunity. With RealPage especially, it's such a one-stop-shop organization where they have 100 different offerings for those multifamily companies. There's a lot of opportunity to get in with RealPage since they're private now, hoping to re-IPO. There's a lot of growth happening, there's a lot of acquisitions still going on, so jumping into that bandwagon that RealPage is on right now is a huge opportunity. In the field itself, sales just has opportunity after opportunity.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Definitely integrity. I was raised on that from a young age, just doing the right thing when no one's watching. Respect is also really important, just building those interpersonal relationships with a lot of people, especially in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. It's a small world too in sales and recruiting, so respect and integrity are really big for me.
