Her Story

About Liz

Liz DiPaolo serves as Supplier Performance Manager at Johnson Brothers, a leading beverage alcohol distribution company, a position she assumed effective in July 2026 after previously serving as Retail Chain Manager for two and a half years. With 18 years of experience in the beverage alcohol distribution industry, Liz has developed extensive expertise in wine, supplier relations, portfolio management, and retail strategy. She holds an International Wine Specialist certification and WSET Level III credential, with additional expertise in spirits and a specialization in tequila portfolio management. DiPaolo began her career after graduating from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a dual major in Illustration and Graphic Design. She entered the beverage industry through retail, where she gained hands-on experience before advancing to the role of Corporate Wine Director and Buyer for a liquor store chain, a position she held for 13 years. During that time, she managed wine purchasing, developed supplier partnerships, oversaw marketing initiatives, earned additional certifications through Johnson & Wales University, and led the importing of private-label wines from Italy and Spain. Her career progression reflects her ability to combine creative marketing, business development, and industry expertise to drive growth and strengthen brand relationships. DiPaolo attributes her success to being an outspoken and confident leader in a traditionally male-dominated industry, having the courage to make strategic decisions, and cultivating long-standing relationships throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She is committed to advancing opportunities for women in the beverage industry through her service as a board member of the Women in Leadership Employee Resource Group, where she supports marketing and communications initiatives. Outside of her professional responsibilities, DiPaolo contributes to her community through volunteer service on her town’s Conservation Commission, helping protect local environmental resources and wetlands while continuing to lead with purpose, advocacy, and integrity.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Liz

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being an outspoken and confident woman in my industry, having the courage to make decisive choices, and trusting my expertise when leading others. Throughout my nearly 20 years of experience serving the Rhode Island and Massachusetts markets, I have built strong, lasting relationships based on trust, collaboration, and mutual respect. These relationships, combined with my willingness to take initiative, advocate for my ideas, and lead with confidence, have been instrumental in shaping my professional growth and success.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering the industry to avoid limiting themselves and to remain adaptable as markets, economies, and industry trends continue to evolve. A college degree can provide a strong foundation, but it does not have to define the entirety of your career path. Be open to learning new skills, exploring unexpected opportunities, and embracing change throughout your professional journey. Success comes from staying curious, being willing to grow, and recognizing that your career can take many different and rewarding directions.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field right now are driven by shifting consumer behaviors, economic pressures, and changes within the broader beverage market. One significant challenge is the decline in alcohol consumption as more consumers prioritize health and wellness. Additionally, increased costs from tariffs, particularly affecting imports from regions such as Mexico and the European Union, have created pricing pressures throughout the industry. Another challenge is the growing Cannabis market, which has begun capturing market share among consumers ages 45 to 70, particularly across New England. At the same time, these changes create opportunities for innovation, adaptation, and exploring new ways to meet evolving consumer preferences while continuing to build strong relationships and deliver value.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are advocacy, service, and balance. I am passionate about supporting and empowering women in a traditionally male-dominated industry, which I have been able to do through my involvement in employee resource groups and mentorship efforts. Giving back to my community through service on the Conservation Commission has also reinforced the importance of civic responsibility and making a positive impact beyond the workplace. As a new mother, I value creating balance between my career and family while continuing to lead with purpose, integrity, and compassion in all aspects of my life.
