Her Story

About Lizzy

Lizzy Vise serves as a Marine Policy Fellow in Representative King Hines' office on Capitol Hill, focusing on marine policy and environmental matters affecting the Northern Mariana Islands. She began this year-long NOAA fellowship in June after applying during her master's studies. With about 5 years of experience overall, Vise previously worked as a communications intern at the Water Institute of the Gulf, where she helped bridge science and the public, and as a student worker in the communications division at the Department of Environmental Quality. She holds a bachelor's degree in Coastal Environmental Science from LSU, where she conducted award-winning research on sediment dynamics along Louisiana's coastline, and is pursuing a master's at LSU with a thesis defense scheduled for next fall examining orphaned wells and their environmental leakage in coastal Louisiana. Vise specializes in coastal issues and sustainable energy use. She values connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and approaching issues with an open mind, and she advises young women entering the field to identify niches where their work can have the greatest impact in this developing and increasingly inclusive industry.

Connecting with others and understanding all perspectives from different backgrounds and environments. Coming to the table with an open mind is very important.
