Her Story
About Lois
Lois Alvar is an accomplished marketing, communications, and photography professional based in the Dallas, Texas area. She currently serves as Engagement Director at Scouting America: Circle Ten Council, where she leads engagement initiatives, community outreach, and relationship-building. She is the first female Eagle Scout to serve as professional staff at Circle Ten Council. In September 2026, she was honored with the 2026 Women in Leadership Award at the Council's Women in Leadership Luncheon.
Lois grew up in the Scouting program. After her family moved to Texas from the Philippines when she was 10, Scouting gave her a close-knit community. She joined Troop 844 in her hometown of Coppell when girls were first welcomed into Scouts BSA, and in 2021 she earned the rank of Eagle Scout, one of the first female Eagle Scouts in the nation. She stayed active in Scouting leadership throughout college, taking on staff roles with the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society, and National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). The Order of the Arrow recognized her with the 2022 Nimat Wimachtendienk Award for Outstanding Service. She continues to serve as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 877 in Irving.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communications from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2025, one year ahead of schedule. Her education was supported by the Lawrence S. and Mabel Cooke Scholarship from the National Eagle Scout Association, which she received in 2023 as the recipient for National Service Territory 8, chosen from Eagle Scout applicants across 15 councils in Northwest and East Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Alongside her degree, she completed a Certificate in Applied Experience Design and Research, which focuses on user experience (UX) design and research. At UT Dallas she served as a Student Government Senator for the School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology, was named Senator of the Month in October 2023, and took part in the Fellowship of Christian University Students (FOCUS). She was hired by Circle Ten Council immediately after graduation.
Her earlier career includes serving as Office of Communications Staff at The University of Texas at Dallas, where she captured compelling moments at campus events, documented student life through photography, produced campus beauty shots, edited photos to enhance visual storytelling, and contributed photography for various university media platforms. Her career reflects a strong blend of communications, creative storytelling, and community engagement.
