I attribute my success to grit, resilience, and the guidance of remarkable women mentors who recognized my potential and never allowed me to give up.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I have received is that my legacy is not my job; my legacy is my children.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Education is both hard work and heart work. The field offers many avenues, so I encourage you to find your niche, discover your own path, and surround yourself with people who will encourage you along the way.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest challenges is closing the achievement gap, which requires collaboration. Another is blending multiple initiatives and new curricula so they work together to strengthen instruction and student achievement. The biggest opportunity lies in trying new approaches, discovering what works, and adding your own spin while keeping the focus on strong achievement for all students.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, faith, family, and collaboration are the values that matter most to me in both my work and my personal life.
