I've been in the custom closets construction industry for approximately 12 years, and I recently started my own company, Luxury Closet Design, back in August with my husband. What initially inspired me to get into this field was being creative and being able to help people with organization and customizing spaces to make it more their own, rather than just builder-grade product. There's so many fun products out there, materials, lights, and things that can make a space really pop. I don't just do closets - I can build cabinets for wine bars, pantries, laundry rooms, garages. It's just a whole other world in this industry. I'd been in interior design before I started, and then life happens - I was actually in insurance for a long time too. Through time and working for a big chain closet company last year, that's when my husband and I decided we could do this on our own and not have the stress of the corporate world. I do most of my work around the DFW area, but I also have special clients that I've done business for in places like Colorado, California, and even El Paso - it just depends on the project. I have a great team around me, and I'm looking to grow. I need more installers, I want more designers. I have another part-time designer, and I design too, just because I've been doing it so long. Right out of high school, I did start to go to interior design school, but I ended up getting married, having kids, and working for an insurance company. I never got a degree, but just because of my experience in sales and the background of interior design, I've been more self-taught and educated through the companies I've worked for and life experiences.
