About Loriann
Loriann Curet-Sanchez is a behavioral health professional, advocate, and shelter counselor whose life and career are defined by resilience, compassion, and service. Currently serving as a Shelter Counselor with the Victims Intervention Program, Loriann has devoted approximately seven years to supporting individuals affected by domestic violence, substance use disorders, and mental health challenges. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Health Science with an emphasis in Substance Use Disorder from Grand Canyon University and is continuing her education by pursuing a Master of Social Work. Her work is deeply informed by her own journey of recovery, enabling her to connect with individuals through authenticity while maintaining the professional boundaries essential to effective counseling.
Beyond her professional role, Loriann is an active community leader who volunteers more than 40 hours each week as the lead volunteer at a local soup kitchen and resource center. She is also co-developing Resources at The Lighthouse, a daytime resource center in Carbondale designed to provide case management, computer access, referrals, and a welcoming environment for individuals seeking stability and support. In addition to her advocacy work, Loriann is a published poet whose writing appears in I Am Beautiful, Volume 8, reflecting her passion for using creativity as a source of healing and empowerment. She has also expanded her impact by developing grant-writing skills to help secure resources for underserved communities.
Loriann's remarkable journey has been shaped by overcoming profound adversity, including years of incarceration, personal loss, cancer survivorship, and long-term recovery from addiction. Rather than allowing these experiences to define her limitations, she has transformed them into a mission of hope and service for others. Guided by the belief that "You cannot forget where you come from or you will never know where you are going," she encourages others to keep moving forward one step at a time. Known for her honesty, thoroughness, and kindness, Loriann believes that the greatest gift anyone can offer is simply being present, dedicating her life to ensuring that no one has to face life's challenges alone.
