Her Story

About Lourdes

I have dedicated over 30 years to the hospitality industry, where I built a successful career in sales and marketing leadership. My most recent role was as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, where I led 80 hotels and was responsible for all aspects of sales, marketing, and commercial operations, including openings and development. I was with Rio Hospitality and then navigated the company through a merger with Stonebridge for a year before my position was eliminated due to duplicate roles in the combined organization. Throughout my career, I was usually the only female in the boardroom, breaking barriers and paving the way for other women in executive hospitality leadership. I graduated from St. Peter's University with a marketing degree and a minor in economics, originally intending to pursue a career on Wall Street. I worked in the banking industry for less than a year before realizing I was more of a people person, which led me to hospitality where I truly thrived. I am currently looking to pivot into the real estate market, specifically targeting a chief growth officer role that leverages my extensive experience in sales, marketing, and commercial development.

Ten minutes with Lourdes

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say being extremely focused has been key to my success. I believe that knowledge is power, so I'm always learning and staying educated on what's changing in the industry without losing the basics. I've also been very professional, staying in my lane while being a cooperative partner with operations. I go back to the fact that we all have a voice, and we need to go ahead and use it. Throughout my career, I've made sure my voice was heard by thinking as a stakeholder, which changes your entire mindset and approach.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never give up!!

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to always have a clear understanding that the goal is to have her voice heard. Join a company thinking as a stakeholder. When you join a company as a stakeholder, you think as a stakeholder, and you voice your opinion as a stakeholder. That changes the mindset completely and ensures that you're not just present, but that you're actively contributing and being heard in rooms where women are often underrepresented.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There is always opportunity in this industry, most certainly. That is something that I will always mentor people about. Things continue to change and evolve, so you need to make sure that you're always educated on what's changing without losing the basics. The key is staying current with industry evolution while maintaining the fundamental principles that have always driven success in hospitality.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my professional and personal life are integrity, resilience, and authenticity. I believe in leading with passion, professionalism, and purpose in everything I do. Throughout my career, I have learned that strong relationships, collaboration, and trust are the foundation of success. I value continuous learning and personal growth because knowledge creates confidence and opportunity. I also believe in using my voice to inspire, support, and empower others, while remaining present for the people and moments that matter most in life.
