Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lucia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success largely to my immigrant parents, who moved from Italy in 1969 and worked incredibly hard to provide opportunities for my brother and me. My father owned a barber shop, and my mother a seamstress, and they prioritized putting every available resource toward our education so we could have greater opportunities in life. I followed their guidance to finish school, establish a career, and build a family, and I ultimately developed my own professional identity after raising my children.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I have largely been self-motivated and have learned through curiosity and continuous education. Rather than relying on one specific piece of advice, I have taken class after class and learned from a wide range of people. I intentionally seek out people who are already doing what I want to do, whether that is succeeding in Airbnb, real estate, or content creation, and I study their approaches so I can continue developing my own skills.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't give up. There are so many opportunities available today, especially because of technology. You will inevitably encounter roadblocks, but perseverance can help you work through them and find a way forward. Keep learning, remain open to new opportunities, and continue developing your knowledge and skills. It's never too late to start. Age is only a number.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I see is standing out among the many content creators in the market. With so much content being produced, it is important to find ways to be original, establish a recognizable brand, and create something that connects with people. Algorithms can also make it difficult for content to reach the audiences who would benefit from seeing it, so finding authentic and effective ways to connect with people remains an ongoing challenge.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Perseverance and continuous learning are the values that are most important to me. I believe in not giving up when challenges arise and in continually expanding my knowledge. Taking additional classes, learning from others, and remaining curious have all helped me continue growing personally and professionally.
