Her Story
About Luisa
I went to SCAD College of Art and Design for my bachelor's in graphic design, graduating in 2017. My interest began in high school through a magnet program in web design where I discovered my preference for the front-end graphic aspects over back-end coding. I've maintained graphic design throughout my career, including freelancing, and now teach it at the high school level while running Eluna Creative, my brand and graphic design company. I focus on curriculum development, student portfolio building, and Adobe certifications to prepare students for freelance work.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of trusting myself, working hard, and staying resilient. Throughout my career, there have been many moments where the path forward wasn't clear, whether I was building my design career, stepping into education, or launching my own business. I've learned to trust my intuition, embrace opportunities that challenge me, and keep moving forward even when things don't go as planned. Success isn't usually one big breakthrough, it's the result of consistently showing up, learning, adapting, and refusing to give up on the things that matter most.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is that you don't have to have everything figured out before taking the next step. Some of the best opportunities in my life came from saying yes before I felt completely ready and trusting that I would learn along the way. Growth happens when we're willing to step outside our comfort zones, and confidence is often built through action, not before it.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Take the time to truly understand who you are, what you value, and what success looks like for you. It's easy to compare yourself to others or feel pressure to follow a certain path, but your unique perspective is your greatest strength. Invest in your skills, stay curious, and be willing to put in the work, but don't lose sight of what makes you different. The most fulfilling careers are built when talent, purpose, and authenticity come together.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
As a designer, one of the biggest conversations right now is around AI and how rapidly technology is changing the creative landscape. While that presents challenges, I also see tremendous opportunity. As more tasks become automated, the value of human creativity, strategy, empathy, and original thinking becomes even more important. The people and brands that will stand out are the ones willing to think differently, build meaningful connections, and bring a unique perspective that technology alone can't replicate.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Community, empathy, and purpose are the values that guide everything I do. Whether I'm designing for a client, teaching students, or building my business, I believe our work should create a positive impact beyond ourselves. I'm passionate about helping others grow, creating opportunities where I can, and contributing to something bigger than individual success. I want the work I do today to create a ripple effect that empowers others, strengthens communities, and helps build a better future for the next generation.
