Her Story

About Lula

Lula Wilson is a distinguished executive, entrepreneur, author, and advocate whose professional journey spans over three decades in retail and residential real estate. Beginning her career as a part-time cashier at Walmart while working toward her education, she demonstrated a talent for team building and operational efficiency that propelled her through management ranks to store manager and eventually to senior executive roles at Dollar General, where she currently serves as a Regional Director. In addition to her retail executive responsibilities, she operates as a licensed real estate agent helping single mothers and first-time buyers achieve homeownership, while also directing her commercial ventures, Shop Look Confident and W&L Landscaping Company.

Grounded in her personal journey as a domestic violence survivor, Wilson expanded her life's work into community advocacy by establishing the nonprofit organization Confidently Learn To Live, Inc. in 2018. Through this initiative, she equips survivors with vital emergency planning resources, self-esteem empowerment programs, and long-term support needed to break cycles of abuse. To further back this mission, she authored the book Confidently Living, directing all proceeds toward funding transitional resources for affected families, and earned certification as a professional life coach to better counsel individuals rebuilding their lives.

Holding a business degree and credentials in life coaching and real estate, Wilson balances her multifaceted career with a rich personal life centered on her family. Honored for her leadership and advocacy with a feature in Influential Women magazine, she remains dedicated to mentoring team members, advancing community welfare, and guiding emerging leaders toward purpose-driven careers.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lula

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise always prioritizing yourself by pursuing what truly excites you. When you lack genuine passion for your work, it is impossible to give your full effort or achieve real fulfillment. Many people start out by choosing a path strictly for financial gain, but without passion, that path inevitably leads to burnout. Ultimately, you must choose a career that brings you genuine happiness and aligns with your purpose.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that mean the most to me are passion, purpose, and a deep commitment to helping others. In addition, my family is central to my life; spending meaningful time with my husband, adult children, and grandchildren provides me with immense joy, inspiration, and balance.
