About Lumen

Lumen Beltran is an actress and producer based in Los Angeles, California. With ten years in the social media, entertainment, and digital space, she has spent six years acting and two to three years producing content and shows. Beltran earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Calgary at the Haskayne School of Business, where she pursued a Semester at Sea student exchange and completed two international internships in Mumbai, India. She is a member of UBCP/ACTRA and judges films for the Gender Equity in Media Society. Beltran has received the Best Actor award at the Phil-Am Creative Film Festival and a Best Performance nomination for the film On Gordon Alley. She volunteers as a guest speaker for the FRAME Film Program and with Gemfest, supports animal welfare by adopting a three-legged cat, and has taught women with cancer how to apply wigs while bringing therapy puppies to sessions. Beltran attributes her success to a combination of spite from being told she was too much when younger and genuine joy drawn from life experiences that fuel her creative work, having learned to forgive projections and embrace being multi-dimensional. She highlights ongoing challenges with representation for actors and women of color, as well as cultural humility discouraging self-promotion in Asian communities, while seeing opportunities in creating content that highlights diverse stories beyond stereotypes.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lumen

01What do you attribute your success to?

A combination of spite from being told I was 'too much' when younger and genuine joy from life experiences and real moments that fuel my creative work. I've learned to forgive those projections and embrace being multi-dimensional.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Representation for actors of color and women of color remains a major challenge, along with cultural humility that discourages self-promotion in Asian communities. Opportunities exist in creating our own content and platforms to highlight diverse stories beyond stereotypes like the 'maid' role.
