Ten minutes with Lutisha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first and foremost to God, who is the foundation of my life and the source of my strength, guidance, and purpose. I trust that He opens the right doors, closes the ones that aren't meant for me, and leads me through every challenge. I also credit my parents and my family, whose unwavering belief, encouragement, and support have given me the confidence to pursue my goals. Their faith in me, together with my faith in God, has shaped who I am today and continues to inspire me to keep growing and moving forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to never be afraid to walk into rooms where I'm the only person who looks like me. I've learned to embrace who I am, have confidence in my abilities, and let my work and authenticity speak for themselves. As the only Black female director in my role, I've often found myself as the only Black person in the room, and those experiences have taught me that I belong there just as much as anyone else. Even when I feel out of place or others may question my presence, I remind myself that I'm there for a reason. I believe God has opened those doors for me, and I'm called to step into those opportunities with confidence, authenticity, and the courage to shine.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to lead with compassion, authenticity, and a genuine belief in the people you serve. Everyone deserves a second chance—and sometimes a third, fourth, or even fifth—so never give up on someone, because none of us would want others to give up on us. Don't pursue this work solely for the paycheck or the experience; commit to making a meaningful difference. When you truly believe in someone, you have the power to help transform their life. I also believe in bringing positivity, energy, and kindness into every interaction. Treat people the way you want to be treated, encourage them to see their potential, and give them a reason to smile. Those small moments of hope and encouragement can have a lasting impact.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is the lack of affordable housing and limited resources for individuals and families who need support. We need more mentorship, representation, and people with lived experiences who can truly understand and guide the communities we serve. At the same time, I see great opportunities to grow through collaboration, supporting one another, and creating more pathways to help people succeed.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are a strong work ethic, community, culture, and compassion. I learned the importance of dedication and perseverance from my parents, and I carry those values into everything I do. I value my experiences, my ability to connect with others, and my commitment to understanding where people are coming from. At the core of who I am is a belief in loving and supporting people beyond their struggles, meeting them with compassion, and helping them find their way forward.
