Her Story

About Luz

I've spent years in the HR organizational development industry, working my way through various corporate roles across different sectors - from biotech to telecommunications to utilities. I've been an interim chief people officer and a global vice president of talent and DE&I at National Grid, where I led really large teams. Throughout my career, I pushed past judgment during interviews and considerations for promotion despite not having a traditional four-year degree. Three and a half years ago, I stepped away from doing very well in the corporate sector and making a lot of money to lean into my dream and truly believe in my expertise. I pushed aside that imposter syndrome and founded the Lead Humano Collective, where I serve as CEO. We're a trusted and expert partner to small businesses and nonprofits in the HR space. I focus on organizational development, leadership development, and executive coaching, doing a lot of strategy work for businesses. Last year we achieved a 156% increase on our bottom line, and this year we're trending the same. As a Latina minority entrepreneur, I'm incredibly proud that we have our own office and a team working with me in just three years. I'm a self-learner and self-starter who believes that if you really focus and commit yourself to what you do, you can accomplish anything, including starting your own business.

Ten minutes with Luz

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my father. His leadership, his example, his drive - all of it shaped me. Even his mistakes and his regrets taught me valuable lessons. He always wanted to own a business and didn't accomplish that, but he accomplished a lot of other things. He taught me well, and I'm grateful for everything he instilled in me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Have a flexible mindset on what the work is about, because it's changing fast and furiously with AI. I think the thing is, stay flexible in all things in the industry. We really need to be flexible with what's happening. It's not very inspiring, but I'm telling you - flexibility is key right now.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

It's about people for me. It's about what are we doing to support people's growth, and their dreams, and their potential. I spend my time on things that really enrich the community. Whether it's through my work with Girls Lead or other initiatives, I focus on creating experiences and opportunities that help people develop and reach their full potential.
