About Luz
Luz Ramirez serves as Sustainability Administrator for the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she supervises staff and leads development of a sustainable tourism program. She began her government career roughly six years ago after earning a master's degree in sustainability and climate change from the School of Sustainability during the COVID period. Prior roles at Sarasota County included analyst work tracking metrics, benchmarking, and greenhouse gas reporting, followed by coordinator responsibilities in community outreach, project management for EV charging infrastructure, and oversight of net zero planning efforts with consultants. Ramirez holds a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in chemistry and pursued public health studies at Claremont University. She attributes her success to dedication and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities, values fiscal responsibility, community impact, inclusivity, and ethical decision-making, and advises resilience in the face of changing agendas. Her current focus addresses challenges from Florida's evolving political landscape and frequent climate events while balancing funding needs for community preparedness.
