Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lydia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my desire to create meaningful change while serving as a positive role model for my four daughters. I want to show them that despite obstacles or people telling them what they cannot achieve, they should always believe in themselves and pursue their goals with confidence. My daughters are my greatest motivation and my proudest success story.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to bring solutions. We are accustomed to focusing on the problem at hand versus next steps to achieve our goal. By focusing on the outcome, navigating the path ahead becomes clearer and more achievable.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women to trust themselves and have confidence in their judgment. In Human Resources, it is essential to separate personal emotions from organizational policies and apply those policies fairly and consistently. While difficult conversations are not always easy, approaching them thoughtfully and professionally ensures the best outcomes. Trust your decisions, remain compassionate, and recognize that growth often comes through challenging experiences.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest opportunities in Human Resources is improving communication by helping employees understand the purpose behind policies rather than simply enforcing rules. People are more likely to embrace change when they understand the reasoning behind decisions. Building trust through transparency, encouraging open communication, and helping employees stay focused on the long-term benefits of organizational processes are essential to creating a stronger workplace culture.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value integrity, effective communication, servant leadership, professionalism, fairness, empathy, perseverance, accountability, and leading by example, while striving to create positive change, support others' growth, and inspire future generations through my actions.
