Her Story

About Lynn

I've been in this industry for 25 years after a friend encouraged me to try it despite my initial hesitation about construction. I started at Boxley doing AR work and grew into finance, point of sale systems, and now credit and collections as East Region AR Manager. I love empowering other women to join the field and have found collections surprisingly rewarding by building relationships professionally rather than aggressively. My education includes an associate's from Western, time at Radford, and completing my bachelor's in Business Management and Accounting from National Business Tech College in 2010.

Ten minutes with Lynn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to having a positive attitude, being willing to learn new things even after 25 years, following the data, staying patient, and not overthinking situations. I believe in empowering my team by walking them through processes rather than doing it for them.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received is to not overreact, analyze the situation, ask questions if something doesn't look right, stay calm, don't overthink it, and follow processes patiently. This approach kept me from making situations worse during training and problem-solving.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I advise young women to think things through, not give up because it's a good job with growth potential, and find someone who will help them believe in themselves. Mentoring is key, and once they start growing it's neat to see them take on more responsibility and advance.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is finding experienced people or those willing to learn the job, especially on the collections side as many prefer hands-on production roles. However, construction offers great opportunities for growth if you follow processes and stay patient.
