Her Interview
Ten minutes with Lynn
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to building trust within the veteran community, forming meaningful collaborations, and remaining open to new opportunities that allow our mission to grow. I believe lasting impact comes from working alongside others, learning from mentors, and staying persistent even when challenges arise. Demonstrating consistent action and earning the confidence of those we serve has been the foundation of both my leadership and the continued growth of Hope4Veterans.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My first piece of advice is to make your own recovery and self-care your highest priority before taking on the responsibility of supporting others. Take time to discover your "why"—the purpose that drives your work—and build a clear plan for achieving your goals. Surround yourself with knowledgeable people who understand business, nonprofit leadership, and your mission, rather than relying solely on friends for guidance. Success requires preparation, collaboration, and a willingness to earn trust through meaningful action. Most importantly, remain open to opportunities and partnerships that can expand your impact.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges facing veteran-serving nonprofits is the increasing competition for grants and sustainable funding, along with recruiting and retaining qualified peer recovery professionals. Supporting women veterans also requires overcoming systemic barriers while balancing organizational growth and expanding services. At the same time, I see tremendous opportunities to strengthen collaboration among organizations, expand therapeutic and peer recovery programs, develop housing partnerships with comprehensive wraparound services, and increase awareness through conferences, podcasts, community events, and other outreach initiatives that connect more veterans with the resources they need.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my work and my personal life are trust, collaboration, self-care, compassion, and ensuring that every veteran feels seen, heard, and valued. I believe meaningful change happens when people work together with integrity, demonstrate their commitment through action, and create supportive environments where individuals can heal, recover, and rebuild their lives with dignity.
