I've been working in vascular ultrasound technology for 27 years, and I absolutely love what I do. In my current role, I basically strive for diagnostic accuracy of patient exams, clinic efficiency, and patient safety and human empathy - taking care of patients and making sure I do the exams properly. I scan my patients, write reports, and input them for the doctor to sign off on. I take on add-ons and help troubleshoot equipment issues as they happen. For 16 years of my career, I held leadership management positions as the lead vascular technologist and vascular technical director, where I oversaw staff, helped train different people, grew the lab, and customized reporting systems. That technical director position was definitely my most notable achievement because it put me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow as a person. I was very shy and quiet in the beginning, but I found my voice as I went along.
