Lynne Billings is a dedicated and accomplished educator with extensive experience as a school librarian and classroom teacher. With over a decade as a library specialist and more than ten years teaching AP English, social studies, and French, she has consistently promoted confidence, accountability, and a love of learning among her students. Lynne holds a Master of Education from Cambridge College and is a licensed Massachusetts Library Teacher, bringing both academic expertise and practical experience to her educational leadership roles.

In addition to her work in schools, Lynne is a self-published author of The Max Rocks the ‘80s series, a realistic fiction collection featuring a gregarious teen with learning differences. Her novels, set in Western Massachusetts and New London, Connecticut, explore coming-of-age themes with humor and heart, and she is currently working on the third book in the series, set for publication in June 2025. Through her writing, Lynne seeks to inspire young readers and promote understanding of diverse learning experiences.

Beyond teaching and writing, Lynne is deeply committed to community service and leadership. She serves on the boards of CT-ALIVE, supporting victims of violence and their families, and the Elms College Alumni Board, contributing to outreach, curriculum development, and fundraising initiatives. Known for creating stimulating, inclusive environments, Lynne fosters collaboration, mentoring, and growth, both in her students and her colleagues, while maintaining a lifelong dedication to literacy, learning, and empowerment.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my perseverance and resilience. Staying committed through challenges and maintaining a positive, determined mindset has allowed me to achieve my goals and grow both personally and professionally.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from Sister Kay Regan: “Don’t over explain yourself.” This guidance has helped me communicate more confidently and effectively, trusting my expertise and judgment without feeling the need to over justify my decisions.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this field is to balance your passions with practicality. Lead with passion in everything you do, but also stay grounded and thoughtful in your approach—this combination will help you build a fulfilling and successful career.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in my field right now is finding the balance between what I am passionate about teaching and the opportunities available. Navigating this balance allows me to grow creatively while making the greatest impact on my students and community.

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, accountability, acceptance, and empathy. I strive to approach every situation with honesty and responsibility, while embracing and understanding the perspectives and experiences of others.
