Her Story

About Lynsi

Lynsi Gibbons is a marine industry sales professional and Sail Consultant at Quantum Sails with more than 14 years of experience in sail sales and service. Her career in sailing began at age 11 and included teaching sailing before she transitioned into the marine sales and service industry. She spent nearly a decade as West Coast Office Manager at North Sails, gaining experience in sales, service, marketing, and client relations, before joining Quantum Sails, where she has continued to build her expertise in yacht racing and customized sail solutions.

In her current work, Lynsi combines her sailing background with hands-on experience supporting clients and racing teams. Her responsibilities include meeting clients at their boats, measuring vessels, understanding their performance needs, selecting appropriate sailcloth and products, and coordinating with designers, manufacturers, and production teams. She also helps clients test and properly set up completed sails for racing. Lynsi holds a business degree from The Ohio State University and has completed multiple U.S. Sailing Safety at Sea in-water courses. Her sailing accomplishments include winning the Junior Women’s National Championship in the Laser class at age 15 and finishing first in the Transpacific Yacht Race to Hawaii twice in four crossings.

Beyond her professional role, Lynsi has contributed to the San Diego sailing community through her work with the Cortez Racing Association, where she served as Membership Director from 2017 to 2025. She has also expanded her work in sailing through the launch of Synergy Sailing, a business offering crew training, lessons, cruises, and bucket-list regattas. As a woman who has built her career in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Lynsi emphasizes perseverance, resilience, and refusing to give up even when she is the only woman in the room. Her personal interests include scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, gardening, Pilates, fashion, and golf.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lynsi

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my lifelong background in sailing and the experience I have gained across different areas of the marine industry. I began sailing at age 11 and later became a sailing instructor before building my career in sail sales and service. I spent nearly 10 years as the West Coast Office Manager at North Sails, where I gained extensive experience in sales, service, marketing, and client relations, before joining Quantum Sails.

My experience working directly with sailors and their boats has been particularly valuable. In my sales role, I work closely with clients to understand their needs, measure their vessels, select appropriate materials and products, and coordinate with designers, manufacturers, and production teams. I also support clients through sail testing and racing, allowing me to combine my technical knowledge, sailing experience, and commitment to client service.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received has come through my own experiences and the importance of sharing my story and background. My journey from growing up in Ohio to moving to San Diego after college and teaching sailing at a yacht club has shaped the way I approach my career.

I have also learned the importance of resilience and being willing to begin again. After being diagnosed with breast cancer at 25 and becoming pregnant shortly after surgery, I had to reassess my path and eventually restart my sailing career. My experiences with U.S. Sailing training, sailboat racing, and working with the San Diego sailing community have reinforced the value of continuing to move forward, adapting to change, and remaining connected to what I am passionate about.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the marine and sailing industry is simple: never give up, even if you are the only woman in the field or the only woman in the room. Being one of few women in a male-dominated industry can present challenges, but it should never discourage you from pursuing your goals or establishing yourself professionally.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest opportunities for me right now is being able to put myself and my story out there while expanding beyond my role as a sail consultant. I recently launched my own sailing business, Synergy Sailing, which offers comprehensive sailing experiences, including crew training, sailing lessons, cruises, and bucket-list regattas.

This opportunity allows me to combine my experience in sailing, racing, instruction, client relations, and sales while creating new ways to connect with people and share my passion for sailing.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Resilience, determination, authenticity, and perseverance are important values in both my work and personal life. As a woman who has worked in a predominantly male industry, including being the only female sales representative at a North Sails meeting in Portugal in 2017, I have learned the importance of believing in myself and continuing to pursue opportunities regardless of the environment.

My experiences in competitive sailing have also shaped my values. Winning the Junior Women’s National Championship in the Laser class at age 15 and racing across the Pacific to Hawaii four times, including two first-place finishes, taught me the importance of commitment, preparation, and perseverance. Outside of work, I enjoy scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, gardening, Pilates, fashion, and golf.
