Macarena is the founder and principal designer of Darsie Design, where she leads end-to-end design and project management—from conceptualization and budgeting to final execution. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to my vision—coming to the United States from Argentina with the dream of owning my own design business, and now, 15 years later, seeing that dream fully realized.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received was that you can do anything you put your mind to—through hard work, dedication, and never giving up; it’s what carried me from struggling with a new language when I first arrived in the U.S. to eventually earning a Master’s in AI Architecture.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is: never let anyone tell you that you can't or you won't—I'm proof that with resilience and determination, you can rise to the top in a male-dominated field; I’ve done it and even beat cancer along the way.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is standing out in a male-dominated industry—but it’s also the greatest opportunity, because with hard work, confidence, and a strong vision, you can rise above the competition and make your mark.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values to me are passion and dedication—both in my work, where I love bringing my clients’ dreams to life through design, and in my personal life, where I make time for family, self-care, and embracing life’s adventures to the fullest.
