Her Interview
Ten minutes with Mackenzie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say just hard work, honestly, at the end of the day. It's just being able to put in the hard work, always trying to learn new things, never thinking that I know more than the person sitting next to me in the room, because to me every conversation is an opportunity to learn something new.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is, honestly, and this is very industry specific, but it's serve every day as if you're an advocate for patients... At the end of the day, I've not done a good job if I'm not advocating for a patient... And then the other thing is, you know, just take chances on yourself and be willing to put yourself out there.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say reach out to everybody. Like, if you think that person doesn't want to help me, that person doesn't want to try to get to know me, reach out to them anyways... Finding somebody who's in the industry that's willing to help, and most of us are... be willing to reach out to people.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges, obviously, that we have is, I mean, the reputation of being in pharma... Getting people to see past that, and that it can be a compassionate opportunity or industry... large corporations being bought out by private equity, and then they kind of shut the doors on us, so then we aren't able to access the people that we need to access.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
So the biggest values that I have is, it's my integrity. You know, I'm never gonna do anything that's gonna put my integrity at risk... there's nothing that any company could ask of me that would make me not be an honest person with the customers that I'm dealing with, or try to ruin my own reputation or name... my integrity, and my honor being honest, even if it's not what people want to hear.
