About Mackenzie

Mackenzie Carroll is a sales professional with five years of experience in the software industry. She started in recruiting for software companies while in college and then transitioned into sales development roles, building expertise through cold calling and handling rejection. She progressed to managing larger clients and now serves as an Account Executive at SAP, working with enterprise customers. Carroll attributes her success to being herself combined with hard work and a strong support system. Outside of her role, she volunteers with Rework, a nonprofit organization that assists people from varied backgrounds in entering the software space through interview preparation and related training.

Ten minutes with Mackenzie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think that when you can truly be yourself, and then match that with hard work, it's made me super successful. People are gonna remember that, and they're gonna think about you and want to work with you in the future. A support system is what you need to be successful. Working hard, staying determined, if there's something that I really want, it's not a matter of can I get there, because I never thought I couldn't.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Software sales is a really good space for women who are outgoing. It's not necessarily pushed to girls as they're graduating. Accept that it's gonna be hard, but if you can have the determination and get over handling rejection from entry-level cold calls, you can do a lot of really good things. Be open to change and the process of rejection leading to a yes. Sales is hard but accepting bad days and good days and learning from it is key.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Determination or resilience. Being present with who you're with is super important. If you're at work, be at work, and when you're not at work, don't be at work. Being present in where you are is something that's super important to me.
