Her Story

About Madeline

I've been passionate about fitness and nutrition for over 10 years, really since I was young doing bodyweight workouts and watching what I ate. After graduating with my bachelor's in business administration in 2022, I faced a big decision between going into office work or pursuing my passion for fitness and nutrition. I took a personal training job at a gym in a nearby city, got certified as a personal trainer, and worked there for about a year as a 1099 contractor, which required me to become an LLC. Although I experienced burnout and financial challenges there, I gained invaluable experience and realized I had the structure to do it better on my own. So I decided to leave and start Hatch Services, teaching my first class in town and building from there. My approach combines everything I learned from my psychology degree and business degree with my personal experience, including competing in bodybuilding where I worked with a coach and dropped about 20 pounds to achieve stage-lean condition for a national show out of California. Now I create personalized fitness and nutrition plans for my clients and hold them accountable to following through, because sometimes people have the willpower but not the education, or they have the education but the willpower is gone. My days include teaching a 7 a.m. class at our local community center with early bird retired ladies, doing outreach and follow-ups, client fulfillment, coaching calls on Mondays and Thursdays, and lots of content creation and posting online. I've also been investing in two different coaching programs to grow both my B2C client base and my B2B corporate wellness offerings, and I love collaborating locally, like partnering with the coffee shop across from the community center for our Crockett Moves and Revival Bruise event.

Ten minutes with Madeline

01What do you attribute your success to?

In the beginning, it was about proving myself to my parents and to myself that I could do it. I wanted to show them and show myself that I was capable of making this work. That drive to prove what I could accomplish has been a huge part of what's kept me going, especially in those early days when I was deciding whether to pursue my own business or go back to office work. It's been about believing in myself enough to take the risk and then following through to demonstrate that belief was justified.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

After I graduated with my bachelor's degree, I was thinking about going straight into getting my master's because I loved learning so much. But my professor, who I had worked closely with, stopped me and said I needed to go out and get experience first, then come back to the idea of getting my master's later, maybe 5 to 10 years down the road. He helped me understand that when you go to get your master's, you need more of an intention, not just a willingness to learn. He could see that I wasn't experienced enough yet and that I needed to gain clarity about who I am and what I want to do first. That advice to go get real-world experience before pursuing more education really pushed me to take action and has shaped my path.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The biggest roller coasters are ahead of you, but don't pay attention to them. Don't let them dictate how you feel about what you're doing. Even to this day, there are some days where I get tired and I'm like, oh my gosh, I have doubts and worries. I got ignored, I keep getting rejected, and I'm thinking, man, is this even worth it? But then I get a good 8 hours of sleep and I'm like, alright, let's go! I don't care, none of that matters. Sometimes you just need a good night's rest and it'll restart the mood. So if you're tired and it's been a long day, don't worry about the ups and downs so much. Just keep going.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There's so much demand right now for exactly what I do, for people needing exactly what I offer. It's limitless right now. The market is wide open and there's no cap on the opportunities available. People are increasingly recognizing the value of fitness and nutrition coaching with accountability, and that creates an incredible opportunity for growth in this field.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say it's kind of ironic because I don't talk about it very much, but I can tell that because I don't talk about it very much, that it is what I live my life by. Trust, honesty, and transparency are the three biggest things that I go by right now. These values guide everything I do, even if I'm not always vocal about them. They're the foundation of how I operate both personally and professionally.
