Her Story

About Madeline

I started my career in marketing and then moved to a branding consulting role in the promotional products industry. Through that experience, I learned that I loved sales, the connection, and the ability to service people. I really enjoyed that element of the craft. But for me, I wanted something that I felt was going to make a deeper impact. My grandfather was a doctor, so I thought this is kind of in the family, it's calling to me, it's speaking to me. I decided to transition and shoot my shot in pharmaceutical sales. I ended up with Merck, and it's been kind of history since then. I've been in pharmaceutical sales for six years now, and the journey has been inspiring and challenging at times, but extremely rewarding. I work in the women's health division, and I love that I get to assist in providing women with options and choices for their own future. I feel as though it's extremely empowering. From a craft perspective, I love to connect, I love to have deeper conversations and challenge my clients, my doctors, in deeper clinical conversation. Those are my favorite things about what I do.

Ten minutes with Madeline

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think that being assertive and being bold and courageous are three qualities that have provided me with a lot of success in my career. Being bold is also being vulnerable, right? It's being scary and doing things, but I don't know if it's always going to work, but I think you have to be confident and take the risk. You really just gotta send it.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Keep going. And have pride in everything that you do. Everything. It's simple, but it's provided me with a lot of strength and pride in my own work, right? If you're gonna do it, feel really good about it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never give up. I was rejected twice getting into pharmaceutical sales. Pharmaceutical sales is extremely difficult. But don't let go of what you want. Keep pursuing. If it doesn't work out the first time, that doesn't mean that it's not right. That just means adjust and continue. That would be my advice.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Right now, we have released new clinical trials that were released, which are public. One of the biggest challenges is getting out there and spreading the word, right? And making sure all practitioners are aware of the new findings. I got my work cut out for me this year.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think honesty and integrity are extremely important. I think you should say what you mean and mean what you say. It has to be followed up by actions, because what that essentially leads to is deeper trust, right, in the relationship. And trust is everything, especially in this line of work. So that also leads into my personal relationships as well. Also, family. I'm a huge family person, my family is so important to me, so that's a huge value of mine.
