About Madeline

Madeline Sanders serves as the operations manager at the Jeremiah Program, a national non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty for single mothers two generations at a time. She has held this position for 8 years, contributing to the development of the New York non-residential model by sharing ideas, providing feedback, and partnering with other organizations during the program's startup phase. Prior to joining Jeremiah, Sanders worked with the Brownsville Partnership on the 5,000 Jobs Campaign, where she helped residents of the Brownsville and Crown Heights communities seek employment through job events and employer connections. In that role, she vetted employers to ensure positions were appropriate for the population served, including entry-level opportunities for the formerly incarcerated that required minimal education credentials. She also partnered with the Department of Education on a maintenance program to create school-based work opportunities. Sanders volunteers with The Bridge Project, which supports pregnant single women. She attributes her professional drive to a desire to do better, learn more, expand her skills and sense of self, and give back to her community, in addition to her family. Sanders advises young women entering her industry to not be afraid to go after what they want, noting that even failure represents a form of success because one learns whether an opportunity is achievable only by trying.

Ten minutes with Madeline

01What do you attribute your success to?

Besides my family, what pushes me is always me wanting to do better, learn more, expand my skills, expand who I am, and give.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid. Go for what you want. If it's not for you now, who's to say it won't be for you later? Just don't be afraid, because sometimes the fear... Even when you fail, you still succeed. You wouldn't known if you would have been able to do it or not if you didn't just try.
