About Madelyn

Madelyn Mackie serves as CEO and Chief Career Activator at Madelyn Mackie Associates. With 14 years in her field, she motivates, empowers, and educates professionals to activate their career dreams through her work as a resume writer, LinkedIn profile writer, career coach, and trainer. Mackie is certified as a Minority Business Enterprise and a Women Business Enterprise. She is currently pursuing a Master's in Pastoral Ministries to become a chaplain as part of her phase two career. A third-generation educator, she attributes her success to her theater background, where she learned that all things are possible with the right team. Mackie is a member of the African American Chamber of Commerce, where she served as a former executive board member, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Oakland/Bay Area Chapter, Career Thought Leaders, the National Speakers Association, and the National Resume Writers Association. She advises young professionals to talk to people already doing what they want to do to gain a roadmap for their paths. In her view, the biggest opportunity in her field is the AI boom, and she encourages professionals to embrace artificial intelligence without losing their human intelligence. Mackie values education above all, believing all dreams can come true through lifelong learning with no shortcuts.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Madelyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I strongly believe that all things are possible. I truly, truly, truly believe all things are possible, and I got that from my theater background. I've done shows where we had water flowing uphill. And spaceships landing on the stage. And anything is possible. You just need to think it through with other people, and find some really great, smart people to work with.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

First of all, talk to people doing what you've already done. Talk to people who are doing what you want to do. Ask them, how'd you do it? Because that's going to give you a roadmap to start with. And then you can customize it to fit your own needs and style.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There is an AI boom, a technology boom with artificial intelligence. It's really changing how entrepreneurs work. It's changing the world of work. What I'm advising all professionals is get on the artificial intelligence bandwagon, but don't lose your human intelligence.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Education, education, education. My parents were educators, both my mom, my father, my grandfather. I am a third-generation educator. I think that we should all be lifelong learners. I believe all dreams can come true. You just gotta educate yourself on how do I make this happen. There were no shortcuts. Taking the time to learn.
