Her Story
About Madelyn
Madelyn Reed founded Salka Pet in April 2024 to provide natural, ingredient-focused skincare products for dogs after observing low standards in the pet industry for topicals. A raw feeder since 2009, Reed was inspired by her lifelong love of animals and entrepreneurship to create products that prioritize canine skin health. She holds a degree in merchandise marketing from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and previously worked at Nordstrom for seven years before pursuing her own business. Reed actively supports dog rescues such as Rover's Retreat and other organizations by giving back to adopted pets. She involves her three children in the family business, which began at farmers markets, and emphasizes persistence in entrepreneurship.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
This is a marathon and not a sprint. So many times you might think you should be somewhere further along than you are. You might get a setback and that's okay. There's always gonna be obstacles you have to overcome. The only difference between a successful business and an unsuccessful business is the entrepreneur that doesn't give up, the entrepreneur that can take the biggest beating. If you can keep getting beat up and you keep getting back up, you're gonna win.
