Her Story
About Madiha
Madiha Sultana believes Cybersecurity is more than a technical discipline, it is a way to build trust, resilience, and inclusion in an increasingly connected world. Her journey into the field began in India, where she completed her Bachelor’s in Computer Science and Engineering, and continued in the United States, where she pursued her Master’s in Cybersecurity at the University of Houston. That journey has been shaped by continuous learning, adaptability, and a belief that meaningful growth comes from stepping into new environments and rising to new challenges.
Over time, Madiha has built a career that combines technical expertise with purpose. As a Cybersecurity & Web Solution Engineer at Atmosense,Inc, she works on securing web platforms and infrastructure, strengthening security controls, managing email security and threat detection, and contributing to blockchain-based security initiatives. Along the way, she earned certifications including ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) and CompTIA Security+, while also expanding her leadership experience as a Technical Editor for the University of Houston Chapter of Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS). She is also interested in applied cybersecurity research and continues to strengthen her expertise through home labs, practical experimentation, and independent exploration of emerging security challenges.
Beyond her professional work, Madiha is committed to mentorship and to creating pathways for others, especially women entering cybersecurity and technology. Through her involvement with Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), Women4Cyber Foundation, and BobaTalks, she has supported others through shared knowledge, encouragement, and community engagement. She continues to grow as a cybersecurity professional while using her journey, voice, and experience to help build a more secure and inclusive future for the field.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Madiha
01What do you attribute your success to?
First of all, I am grateful to God, and I am also thankful to my friends, family, and the people who supported me and believed in me. They kept reminding me to not give up and encouraged me to do things I never even imagined I could do. I am also grateful for the organizations and scholarships that helped me explore opportunities and grow, especially during the recession time when it was hard for me as an international student to get an opportunity. The networking connections and the conferences that I have attended were key factors that helped me get opportunities and grow. I cannot be grateful enough for all the support I have received along the way.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is, don’t give up before you even try. There is no harm in trying. Everything is possible, if not now, then someday. Life comes with both challenges and success, but if you only focus on the challenges, you will never get to experience the success. The truth is, success comes after overcoming challenges, and those challenges become experiences and lessons that stay with you for life. In the end, those lessons are what you carry with you and share with others.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, get inspired by people who are already in cybersecurity, but don't lose yourself in the process. Try to discover who you are, and even if you don't figure it out right away, that's okay. It’s also okay to make mistakes and go through failure, don’t let those things define you. I know it gets hard sometimes, but remember, this too shall pass. With hardship comes ease. And when you do achieve success, don’t forget where you came from. Stay grounded, stay humble, and support the people who are going through what you once went through.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the field is that many people don't know where to start and what direction to take. A lot of people want success, but they don't always understand the journey, effort, and patience it takes to get there. Starting can feel overwhelming.
At the same time, there are also many opportunities now that can help people learn, grow, and move closer to their goals. The non-profit organizations, especially for women in cybersecurity, are playing a vital role in closing the gender gap. Organizations are really helping women come forward and grow in their field. So while the challenge is real, the opportunities are there too.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Peace, passion, gratitude, supporting others, and appreciation are the values that matter most to me. I believe they help a person stay grounded and keep going, no matter how hard life gets. I believe anyone can achieve what feels impossible if they hold on to these values.
